Making Driving Safer and More Convenient

A small number of vehicles on the road today use GPS technology and mobile connectivity to provide convenience and security for drivers. Those technologies are on the path to much more significant benefit to many, many more people.

Mobile broadband connectivity will enable access to the Internet and the map and satellite photo available there, along with real time traffic information and re-routing, parking spot reservation, and wireless tolling. Through higher accuracy GPS combined with real time vehicle to vehicle and vehicle to infrastructure communications vehicles will be able to warn drivers of potential collisions with other vehicles and violation of stop signs and traffic signals. Governments around the world see a tremendous opportunity to reduce traffic accidents and injuries, and to shape traffic making better use of existing roads and improving travel times for everyone. Many governments are looking to mandate the inclusion of these technologies and applications into new vehicles.
